Reynols & Pauline Oliveros  - "Pauline in the Arms of Reynols"
CGR 04 (2001)

"Throughout the album Oliveros's music is viewed afresh, but Reynols are consistently careful to retain as much of its sonorous essence as possible. It's undoubtedly a more fitting and responsive remix project than some other recent attemps to refashion the great icons of minimalism music. For all their initial oddness, reynols have fashioned something sensitive and luminous." -- Brian Duguid THE WIRE MAGAZINE february 2000 (CD re-release)

BIOGRAPHY:

Started its activities in 1993 in Argentina. Since that date the work of the band has been basically oriented to improvisation, droning and deep experimental research, etc., employing diverse acoustic & electric instruments, tapes and electronics. The group is leaded by drummer Miguel Tomasín, an amazing musician who suffers Down's Syndrome. The fact that Reynols integrates a handicapped member is not casual, actually the band's forays into musical experimentation are guided by the immense freedom of Tomasín´s mind, giving a challenging and unique character to this project. The line-up is completed with Robeto Conlazo & Anla Courtis, who play electric guitars and many other instruments.

In 1995 Reynols released the first dematerialized CD called "Gordura Vegetal Hidrogenada". In 1996 they started releasing stuff outside their country. At the moment the band has more than 50 releases in Europe, USA and Japan. During the years the band's activities has included: concerts for plants, tributes to dry ice, psychic energy refractions with toothbrushes, noise performances in public squares, etc. the band also has manufactured self-designed electric guitars and other electric instruments. During 1999 Reynols has been involved in several collaborations projects with the acclaimed American composer Pauline Oliveros.

The band remixed Oliveros´s live stuff in a CD called "Pauline Oliveros in the Arms of Reynols" and played an internet concert with her in 1999. In august 2000 Oliveros & Reynols played together some concerts in USA including a performance at the Lincoln Center on her "Lunar Opera" that was the beginning of the REYNOLS USA TOUR 2000. Reynols also played with Oliveros at the Deep Listening Space during October 2001. During the 2001 USA TOUR the band presented their new homemade instruments called electric pacalirtes in more than twenty cities and played them at the No Music Festival with musicians like Lee Ranaldo, Alan Licht, John Oswald, Michael Snow, Paul Dutton and members of the Nihilist Spasm Band.

REVIEWS:

Frans de Waard / VITAL WEEKLY 187 --

This is a most curious release! A CD of remixes of Pauline Oliveros made by a band from Argentina named Reynols. Nowadays everybody gets a remix, so why not deep dronist Oliveros? The six pieces dwell to a great extent on the drone sounds of Oliveros. Beautiful, haunting drone music. Very nicely made remix/hommages.

High Knee (USA) 11/22/99 --

This is a hard drift ambient psych-rock meisterwerk, all originating from massive solo accordion source tapes by Oliveros, reconstructed in Argentinian noise-rock circles.
